First introduced in F1 2021, Braking Point is a story mode where you play as fictional drivers alongside the real teams, with dramatic stories told in cinematic cut scenes and gameplay scenarios with specific objectives. F1 2019 also had a story mode before it was renamed Braking Point from F1 2021 onwards.

With F1’s story modes usually appearing on a bi-annual basis, F1 25 marks the return of Braking Point, and it looks set to be the best yet.

Here are five key changes you need to know about Braking Point 3.

1. Familiar FacesReturn

The last few Braking Point modes have focused on Aiden Jackson, a young British driver who enters Formula 1 after winning the Formula 2 championship and forms a heated rivalry with arch nemesis Devon Butler.

In F1 23’s Braking Point, the pair become teammates racing for the fictional Konnersport team. After Butler is forced to retire, we’re also introduced to Butler’s sister, Callie Mayer, who becomes the first woman F1 driver in over 30 years.

Braking Point 3 continues their story, with Aiden Jackson, Devon Butler and Callie Mayer returning. This time, the stakes are even higher, with Konnersport, now a formidable team with more financial backing, chasing the championship title.

According to Codemasters, a “dramatic event” will put the team’s legacy at stake, forcing you to fight your way back into contention for the World Championship.

2. Choose Your Story Path

While the narratives are always linear in Braking Point, the choices you make will influence the story scenarios.

Key events will allow you to choose between two characters. Depending on which driver you choose, you’ll get different objectives, character interactions on social media and even an alternative ending, which should encourage repeated plays.

3. Rebalanced Difficulty

Whereas the career modes let you fine-tune the difficulty between one and 100, previous Braking Point modes have only had three difficulty options due to the difficulty of tailoring the AI for each scenario. This meant experienced players often found Braking Point too easy and breezed through the campaign.

Braking Point 3 will introduce a fourth, more challenging difficulty, which should make it easier to find a setting that matches your skill level.

4. Play as Konnersport in Driver Career or My Team

For many players, Braking Point is an entry point into the F1 games. As such, F1 25 will introduce a new option allowing you to transfer the Konnersport team and drivers to Driver Career or My Team as an eleventh team on the grid.

5. Improved Facial Animations

Braking Point’s motion-captured cut scenes have always looked cinematic, but F1 25 will take it to the next level.

Thanks to Nvidia’s Audio2Face technology, Codemasters and EA promise that “more accurate” facial animations will make the story more engaging. This will be most noticeable in press interviews, where your driver’s face is now fully animated when being grilled by the media, unlike before.

We’ll see how it all plays out later this month when F1 25 is released.
