In fact, they are more than a mile spruce up, as five venues have been laser-scanned - a first for the current F1 game series.
LIDAR technology is able to accurately capture data of surroundings, before the Codemasters development team then interprets it, turning the information into more detailed in-game areas.
This technique has become table stakes for any racing game or simulation that aims to be authentic. The upcoming F1 25 game should now see more realistic kerbing, track surfaces and environments for the following five venues:
- Bahrain
- Miami
- Melbourne
- Suzuka
- Imola
The game’s development team has gone on record to state that the laser-scanning is the start of a long-term project. Expect further track enhancements either in post-release patches or next year’s inevitable sequel. These tracks with greater detail will be used across all game modes.
There will also be three reversed layouts too, although we don’t expect them to be used within the single-player career modes.
Those who league races, however, think of this as three extra tracks, as the character when flipped around is unique thanks to different brake zones, overtaking areas and racing lines.
In order to make sure they work in the desired way, the AI has been re-trained to match the layouts, pitlanes adjusted and even smaller details like starting grid lights and marshal placements.
This will only be the following handful of tracks as it stands, so no downhill Eau Rouge sadly:
- Silverstone
- Austria
- Zandvoort
