LMU
Le Mans Ultimate’s online multiplayer modes explained
After iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate is perhaps the most popular multiplayer racing sim currently available on the market. Below, we’ve written a guide to the game’s various multiplayer modes, from Daily Races to Special Events, and how its paid-for subscription services, RaceControl Pro and RaceControl Pro+, can enhance your online racing options.

Daily Races
Le Mans Ultimate has a rolling set of Daily Races catered to players’ Safety Ratings. By driving cleanly and achieving good results, players can build both their Safety Rating (SR) and Driver Rating (DR), unlocking higher tiers of events. Beginner races are for those with a Bronze SR, Intermediate races are for Silver SR ranks, while Advanced races are for Gold SRs. The Daily Races calendar is refreshed every Tuesday morning and is often viewed as the lifeblood of the game’s online experience.

Beginner (Bronze SR)
Non-DLC-owning players can almost always enter beginner races. Races are often held on LMU’s default track lineup, with options to use ‘free’ cars, and launch every 15 minutes. The main Beginner class races usually include LMGT3 and LMP3 fixed-setup options for maximum accessibility.
To better support novice players, driver aids are allowed, and tyre warmers are enabled, with splits limited to 20 cars.
Beginner races allow all LMU drivers to quickly get up to speed with a car and track combo, and are a great way to build SR in a short space of time.
Building consistency is especially important when you’re starting out. Learn why smooth driving is fast (most of the time), and how smoother inputs can help you find more pace.
Intermediate (Silver SR)
Intermediate races allow more open setup race options, with events lasting 30 minutes. Although driver aids are allowed, they can only be set to ‘low’, while tyre warmers are banned.
Races tend to feature LMGT3, LMP3 and LMP2 classes and sporadically introduce DLC tracks, with multi-class races and 38-car splits increasing the difficulty level.
Advanced (Gold SR)
Naturally, Advanced races disallow driver aids and tyre warmers, and feature 38-car grids. Races tend to be longer, generally lasting 40-60 minutes, with pitstop strategy coming into play.
All races have open setups and are more often than not multi-class events. The game’s Hypercars also come into play here, with their challenging handling characteristics reserved for Gold SR-level players.
Weekly Races

Weekly races in LMU tend to be 2-hour, 24-minute events that require players to have Silver SR2 ratings to compete. Held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Weekly Races usually begin at 9 PM UTC to ensure capacity 54-car multiclass grids.
Weekly Races can be either Team-based or Solo events.
Longer races also make pit strategy much more important. Our Le Mans Ultimate pit stop strategy guide covers pit menus, fuel, tyres, driver swaps and ways to save time during a stop.
Special Events

Special Events are LMU’s blue-riband races, featuring longer events often mimicking their real-world FIA World Endurance Championship counterparts. They can be both solo or team races, but are usually longer driver swap races.
To participate in a Special Event, players must have a Bronze S2 SR at the very least. Open setups, zero driver aids and driver fair share rules normally apply too.
Generally, players with Rookie or Dangerous Driver badges cannot enter Special Events.
If you’re entering a team-based event, our Le Mans Ultimate driver swap guide explains how to register a team and complete driver changes during an online race.
Online Championships

LMU also has Online Championships to compete in. However, these are only accessible to players with a RaceControl Pro or Pro+ subscription.
Initially, championship seasons last for six weeks, with each round starting and ending on Tuesdays at 12 PM UTC. Players can compete with their chosen car in each round a set number of times in order to score points toward the overall championship. The number of attempts differs depending on the championship.
Points are scored based on the strength of field (SoF). So, doing well in a race against quicker and better opponents will garner more points than weaker rivals. A minimum of five drivers are required per class for the attempt to be valid.
Hosted Servers

Players can also create and run their own events on LMU by paying for server hosting.
Using the game’s proprietary online platform, RaceControl, players can buy Credits to put towards organising their own races, deciding on their length, car classes and even the weather. However, it is still impossible to host a driver swap race using this method.
You don’t have to be a RaceControl Pro subscriber to host your own server, likewise you are free to join servers created by other players or communities - as long as you have the password!
Co-op Races

Co-op Races, accessible via the main menu, are perhaps LMU’s least-used multiplayer modes. Essentially, you and up to two friends can compete in a set cooperative race asynchronously. This means each driver completes their stint offline, with race progression saved during pitstops.
Driver swaps also take place in the pits, with players able to maximise their ‘Co-op points’ by choosing to run without assists, choosing high AI opponent difficulty and by qualifying and finishing well. You and your teammates’ effort will then appear on the Co-op leaderboard.
LMU is continuing to evolve, with new multiplayer and gameplay features still in development. See what to expect from Le Mans Ultimate over the next 12 months for a look at what could be coming next.
